The more recent ones, like everything beyond Tap Tap Revenge 3, make the game much more social with an account and friend requests, an avatar, and a “level-up” system. Tap Tap Radiation ($2.99), which is exclusively for the iPad has some pretty cool features to fit the bigger screen, but I don’t know much else about it. These ones tend to be priced at $4.99, which might be a high price, but you must factor in the fact that you’re getting all this quality music that would normally cost much more. For example, new ones include Dance, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, and Green Day, just to name a few. Nowadays, I think they’ve gone a bit too far with the new additions, which tend to stick to one artist or one genre. This franchise was extremely successful back in the early days because it provided an iOS equivalent of the famed Guitar Hero franchise. Unfortunately, Tap Tap Revenge (2008) and Tap Tap Revenge 2 (2009) are no longer available for download, but if you already own them you’re fine. All of the ones mentioned are free, with the exception of Tap Tap Revenge 3, which costs $1.99. The following one is named Tap Tap Revenge Tour, and I have never tried it because, frankly I got bored of these extremely similar games. There are four main Tap Tap Revenge games, creatively named Tap Tap Revenge, Tap Tap Revenge 2, Tap Tap Revenge 3, and Tap Tap Revenge 4.

I’ll first give a bit of background on the series installments and features before I get into the gameplay. You may be familiar with the Tap Tap Revenge series by Tapulous since they had a large amount of success back a few years ago, and are still popping out new games very often. If you’ve played any of the Guitar Hero games, then you will be no stranger to the gameplay of Tap Tap Revenge by Tapulous.Here’s a cluster of four reviews, but they are very similar games. Even though it’s not as interactive as Guitar Hero it’s very entertaining and the weekly downloadable songs keep the app fresh.

The main menu contains One Player, Two Player, Play Online, Download More Tracks and Options. The first two options let you play by yourself or simultaneously with a friend. Play Online is where Tap Tap Revenge gets good. The game gives you the option to battle against other players all over the globe and even finds players nearby.Įven though it would be great to be able to play any song in your library, restrictions in the iPhone SDK keep this from happening. However, users are treated to weekly downloads from Tapulous, which keeps the app from getting old too quickly. The Options menu allows users some minor tweaks that adjust gameplay as well as a way to delete downloaded songs and edit your Tapulous profile. Tap Tap Revenge looks a lot like Guitar Hero. It has 3 bars extending off into space and the notes slide towards you. Tapping the notes “plays” the music and gains points. There are also left, right and forward/back arrows that make you move the iPhone or iPod touch.
This is a nice touch (no pun intended) that brings a bit more interactivity to Tap Tap Revenge. Multipliers and “star power” are also used and are gained by tapping notes in a row.ĭownloading new songs is very easy and the selection is great. Songs range anywhere from Weezer -Troublemaker to Q-Tip - Gettin’ Up. Downloading songs on a WiFi connection took about 15-30 seconds.

Tapulous has revealed that its popular Tap Tap Revenge 3 rhythm game has seen 2 million downloads since its price was dropped from 1 to free on December 23. Those willing to plunk down a few bucks can get even more songs. The Tap Tap Revenge playlist is rapidly expanding with last month’s Nine Inch Nails Revenge and the recently released Tap Tap Dance.
